Originally from Wales, with stints in NZ and Australia, Tom aka SDS MAX has been in the producing game for nearly a decade. With a more recent move to the Big Smoke, the half-Kiwi producer has developed more of a taste for UK sounds.
With releases on Chequered Wax, Erbium Records and Lobster Theremin, with a vinyl release coming later this year, this is an artist with a big work ethic.
“I’m a sucker for anything breakbeat heavy with a UK rave influence”. Sound-wise, SDS MAX draws inspiration from the likes of Club Grow, Sneaker Social Club and Hoversounds, all labels on the forefront of dance music at the moment.
Track:
One to be played loud, ‘Pull Up’ creates a modern sounding club cut with a generous nod to the UK rave scene. Playful, twinkling melodies, ravey piano stabs and careful use of amen breaks provide a comforting simplicity while we are kept on our toes with a big switch up part way through, bringing in heavier breaks and a gritty, rolling reese bass. The end product is a familiar-sounding track with a big energy shift to keep you entertained.
