about

Track:

Drawing strong inspiration from Joy Orbison’s ‘Sicko Cell’, Desert Casualty combines an eclectic array of elements; Delectably detailed percussion, a hard-hitting 808 sub-bass, a hefty, driving trance lead and carefully selected samples. Those familiar with Son Orbis’ previous work might recognise some similarities with another banger from him, ‘Flowers For Algernon’ as some sounds were re-used and reimagined to put the icing on this classy heavy-hitting ‘cake’.

Artists:

As a DJ, Son Orbis aka Jack Fleming draws inspiration from the likes of Jackmaster, Gerd Janson and Haai, while commending the production styles of J Dilla, Jamie xx and Nathan Micay. Recalling his first club appearance as a teenager;

“I told a guy I knew, who was running parties, that I was a really good DJ (which I wasn't at all at the time), so he booked me and my friend. Me and my friend had to sneak into the club through the back to play our set because we were too young. We had to hide in the bathroom and the smoking area then wait for our set time and hope that the bouncer wouldn't see us making our way to the booth. Funny enough my friend got caught and was kicked out and couldn't play, but I managed to sneak by him that time and play one of the worst sets I've ever played.”

Since then Jack has gone on to play various venues across the city, including iconic venues such as Button Factory, Dublin just before the pandemic hit. Another string on Jack’s bow is his prowess as a producer releasing tracks on labels such as Eton Messy Records, picking up support from the likes of Joris Voorn, Kolsch, A-Trak and Brame & Hamo. We are excited to see what’s to come from the artist after multiple lockdowns and months in the studio and of course once clubs open back up, we will be following his DJ career closely.
