While initial iterations of the track were darker and more sinister, influence was drawn from Thomas P. Heckmann tracks to bring Bugrats to its final form. The final product is a fast-paced ball of ravey energy, combining, pounding kicks, militant percussion and a chaotic but entrancing arpy synth line. Topped off with unintelligible, chanting vocal, the track snaps you right back to a sweaty warehouse, staring at wavey lasers.
Artist:
Tomas has many strings to his sonic bow, with his passion for songwriting driving him to master a variety of instruments and honing his craft at BIMM Dublin. His love of dance music emerged from a visit to Electric Picnic back in 2017. Through discovering the likes of Bicep and Floating Points, the Dublin-based artist was encouraged to make the switch from more acoustic compositions to more electronic productions, favouring fast-paced cuts that toy with melodies and emotions. Through his productions, the obsession with synthesis and sound design is clearly audible.
As creator of local night FU, Tomas soon curated a home for his electronic sound. His hard work and talent have been recognized by some of the biggest names in Irish dance music, with that recognition culminating in working with Research, Electric Picnic and District 8 at the Tivoli Theatre. Outside the clubs, TOMÁS has played Festival slots at Life Festival (Index Stage) and Fuinneamh Festival sharing the stage with many artists including Rebekah, Paula Temple, Midland and Leon Vynehall.
Tomas recalls one highlight from last year; “...this time last year opening for Cleric and Defekt while doing the countdown for new years was pretty amazing. I really enjoyed that set a lot and it was shaping up to be a crazy year full of gigs on that same level but then it ended up just being a crazy year.”
With a host of releases coming out in 2021, we are proud to feature Bugrats on the label and hoping we can catch Tomas behind the decks in the not-too-distant-future!
